Welcome!

Hey there! Welcome to The Sugared Pepper! My name is Carol, I’m a misplaced farm girl living in a small town here just outside of Seattle. While my husband and I just don’t have the kind of time we would like to be able to live on and maintain a farm, we take as much as we can from what we love about farm life, scale it down and make it our own.  I have an unhealthy obsession with vintage farmhouse wares..anything from old pictures to the chicken crate I repurposed into an outdoor coffee table.  I absolutely love to cook.  My family and friends have been my test bunnies for years….and thankfully no one has died….yet 😉  Let me be clear, I’m certainly not the “gourmet” geek.  (I leave that for a couple of my friends I hope to have you meet soon). I’m the “comfort food, cook what sounds good and won’t take ten years because I work all day” kind of girl.

I once wallpapered my living room with the unprinted side of paper grocery bags….yes I sure did, and it looked awesome – pain in the rear to get down-  but super cool, looked like worn leather—did not taste like chicken.  My husband often comes through the house to find something soaking in coffee that is not a spoon, furniture being dismantled, random objects painted, or me standing there with a blank look — a staple gun— and my sleeve attached to something it shouldn’t.  Fun is trying new projects, succeed or not… Some of my favorite pieces are mistakes.  I can’t wait to dig in and share my next project with you.
So, to get the ball rolling on my very first post on my very first blog, I thought I would share with you all my favorite piece.  This piece also happens to be the first antique/ vintage item I ever purchased.  Fitting right? I thought so too!
My first “pick” was this little lovely….a kitchen scale made by Columbia Scale Company in the early 1900’s.  You may drool now. :). I found her at a yard sale, FOR 3 DOLLARS!!! I would love to know more about the possible date range, so if anyone knows, please share!
